International Baccalaureate – Primary Years Programme
Rivercrest is an authorised International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). These are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Rivercrest Christian College believes is important to our students.
Rivercrest supports the mission statement of the International Baccalaureate (IB), which aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework that caters for students from 3 – 12 years of age. The focus of the curriculum is the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. The PYP is defined by six transdisciplinary themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organise ourselves
- Sharing the planet
The aim of the PYP is to create transdisciplinary curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for all learners.
